3 Simple Ways To Add A Touch Of Sophistication To Your Home

When renovating your home, remodelling or decorating, it’s all too easy to become swept up in the latest trends and fads. Before you know it, you might be looking into a colour scheme that you don’t even like just to stay on trend. Forget being a sheep and following fashion fads if you’re just not that into them and embrace your individuality instead. Everyone wants to add a touch of sophistication to their interior design, but not everyone has to do this in the same way. Sophistication means different things to different people. For some, being sophisticated means clean lines and minimalism. For others, it means expensive fixtures and ornate furnishings. To add a touch of elegance and sophistication, use this guide to inspire you!

When decorating your living room, the chances are you are more concerned with your seating arrangement than anything else. You could have the most sophisticated flock wallpaper, sumptuous carpet and beautiful drapes, but if your chairs and sofa are looking a little tatty, then it can really let the look down. In terms of seating, you could opt for the opulent style of a Chesterfield sofa, with its British heritage and design that hasn’t gone out of fashion in over two hundred years. Or perhaps you want to be more twentieth century and go for a classic retro Scandinavian design. You could opt for original or reproduction depending on your budget, but the look will remain the same.
Making your kitchen a sophisticated space is ridiculously hard, especially if you have a family and a partner who likes to leave the dishes in the sink, rarely clean up after themselves and are constantly using the space as a dumping ground. To embed some sophistication, consider the units of your cabinetry. The country kitchen can be homely but lacks sophistication. Instead, opt for cleaner lines, maybe a high gloss facade and a granite quartz worktop. The flooring should be tiled or high quality linoleum that is in contrast to the colour of your units. While you can’t dictate what your family do in the kitchen, you can make the living area itself ooze sophistication.

The soft furnishings that you choose for your interior can make or break the opulence that you are trying to create. With a range of textures such as silk, chenille, nylon and felt, you can create layers of fabrics and patterns that add to the variety of your interior. Being sophisticated doesn’t begin and end with the look. It is also about how much personality you put into your interior. Consider the colours you choose and the palette you utilise throughout your humble abode. You might love shocking pink and avocado green, but put them together in a living room and it might make people want to turn around as soon as they’ve entered. Be a little more measured and inject your colour through soft furnishings that may be patterned or highly textured.

By following this guide, you can add a touch of sophistication to your interior. Remember, your home still needs to be fit for purpose and functional, so don’t lose that cosy, warm and welcoming feeling!
