Kat Von D Lock It Setting Powder Review

Let's face it, setting powders are pretty boring. Does anyone ever get excited about buying a setting powder? I used to be a little lazy when it came to applying my make-up and I never used to bother when it came to applying setting products - and then I would wonder why some of my make-up would have faded away by the end of the day! I started using the famous Rimmel Stay Matte Powder to help keen shine at bay and as I have fairly oily skin, there is quite a lot of shine to try and keep at bay!

Everyone loves the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder but after using it for a good few years I really wanted to try something different so when I was in America recently and was queuing to pay in Sephora, I picked up a small, travel-sized version of the Kat Von D Lock It Setting Powder. I had heard such great things about it and a few of my favourite Youtubers use it in their videos so I decided to buy a little travel-size version before splashing out on a full-sized powder. See - those sneaky little products they surround by the tills to occupy you with and tempt you by certainly work. Usually I am quite strict when it comes to impulse purchases but not when I am in Sephora, it may seem.

About the Kat Von D Lock It Setting Powder:
"This silky, non-drying setting powder is formulated with Micro-Blurring Technology™ to softly diffuse pores for a velvety-matte, selfie-ready finish. Our universal translucent shade is truly undetectable on all skin tones, so everyone can lock down and mattify their makeup."

The Kat Von D Lock It Setting Powder is a loose, finely milled powder which is completely translucent in colour. It is designed to blur out pores and mattify the skin with an almost velvet-like finish. As I bought this powder in a travel/mini size, it is only 5.4 g in comparison to the full-sized product which is 19 g. I don't think I have used a loose powder like this before as I much prefer pressed powders so the concept of the packaging is slightly alien to me. The powder itself comes housed in a little tub with a strange puff applicator held inside which is quite frankly, no good to anyone. We live in an age where everyone is becoming more make-up savvy when it comes to application and techniques and now that make-up brushes are becoming really inexpensive, there really is no need for brands to include crappy little brushes and silly little puffs like the one included in here. To get the product out of the packaging you just have to shake the tub a little bit (preferably with the lid off!) and the powder comes out from underneath. There's actually a hell of a lot of powder in there so I can imagine even this travel-sized version will last you a long time.

The only problem I have found with this smaller version of the Kat Von D Lock It Setting Powder is that my face powder brush is actually bigger than the tub, meaning this powder goes everywhere! Trying to fit my brush into it is certainly a tight squeeze and I have yet to use this product without it going everywhere but in all honesty, it is worth it. In fact, I would happily buy a smaller brush to accommodate the powder as it's just incredible. The powder just melts into the skin and leaves an almost airbrushed, matte, velvety finish to the skin. I dust it quite lightly over the whole of my face and it sets everything into place perfectly. By the end of the day my make-up is still exactly where it was when I originally applied it without transferring, fading away, making the skin appear cakey nor creased. When the setting powder is applied I have not noticed any shine or oil appearing throughout the day which is great as usually around lunchtime I find that the Rimmel Matte Powder fades away so my face gets slightly oily which then gets worse throughout the day so I always had to take it out with me for top ups but I don't need to do that with the Kat Von D Lock It Setting Powder - one application is enough to last the entire day and it does everything it claims to do. I can definitely see the hype surrounding this product and it is now my second must-have product from Kat Von D!

Overall, I am really impressed with this setting powder! The Kat Von D Lock It Setting Powder practically melts into the skin, leaving an airbrushed, velvety matte finish without making the skin appear cakey. It doesn't crease at all and it keeps all shine at bay throughout the day. A little goes a long way so even the little travel-sized tub is bound to last you a long time. It is definitely a hell of a lot better than the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder so if you are fond of that product then you definitely need to try this!
