Jo Malone is pure luxury. It's not something I would buy myself or anyone else as a casual gift as, in my eyes, Jo Malone products are most suitable for special occasions only. Which is why the only gift I could give to my Mum on Mothers Day was something indulgent from Jo Malone.
I actually bought this product almost 2 months ago at London Heathrow Airport. I was waiting for a flight to Washington and felt like having a splurge in Duty Free which was lucky as I could have bought everything in Jo Malone. I knew I wanted to buy a fragrance and was torn between English Pear & Freesia, Pomegranate Noir and Wood Sage & Sea Salt. It is really difficult purchasing a fragrance for someone else as the fear of them not liking it is always there. Which is why I chose my personal favourite and this is my top tip for you all - always go for the one you prefer as if they don't like it then you can just keep it for yourself! Which is exactly why I chose the Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne.
About the Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne:
"Escape the everyday along the windswept shore. Waves breaking white, the air fresh with sea salt and spray. Alive with the mineral scent of the rugged cliffs. Mingling with the woody earthiness of sage. Lively, spirited and totally joyful."
The Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne smells utterly wonderful. What I love about Jo Malone fragrances is that they pair two completely different scents together and they always work go together perfectly. I would never have thought wood sage and sea salt would have gone so well together but they do, they really do! Before you smell this fragrance you expect it to be quite deep, masculine and woody because of the name but it couldn't smell any different to that if it tried. The Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt is a really light and fresh scent which reminds me of being by the sea. It is almost as if Jo Malone has managed to bottle up the salty sea air and incorporated it with wood sage to create an utterly unique cologne which is completely unisex. It isn't a sweet or fruity fragrance like I'm used to. Instead it is entirely unique and I literally cannot think of a single fragrance which smells anything like this.
When I bought this cologne, the lady in Jo Malone told me the Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne is best layered up with the Wood Sage & Sea Salt Body Creme as the cologne on its own doesn't have great longevity. I dismissed this idea as I was spending over £80 on a cologne which, considering the price, should last all bloomin' week in my opinion and I wasn't willing to spend a further £50 on a body cream. I thought she told me this to get some more money out of me but unfortunately, she was correct. This cologne does not last all day on the skin. An hour or two, yes but all day certainly not. The scent does fade away quite quickly which is a real shame considering it is eye-wateringly expensive. I sprayed two little pumps onto my wrist earlier on today and a good few hours later it is only just noticeable on the skin which is quite upsetting considering it is an awful lot of money.
If we were to look at this product purely on its scent then goodness me is it a must-have. It smells so fresh, light and unique - it is definitely one to try next time you pass a Jo Malone counter. But the longevity of the cologne really lets it down. It doesn't last all day and for the price I would certainly expect it to be stronger on the skin - I wouldn't expect to have to re-apply it a few times a day in order to get a hint of the lovely fragrance throughout the day. This is the first Jo Malone fragrance we have tried and as much as my Mum and I both love the scent itself, for the price of it we really would expect it to be longer lasting.
