Review | Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks in Midi, 1st Base & Are N Be

I don't know if the matte liquid lipstick trend is well and truly over or if we are all silently embracing it still, but my goodness, I do own quite a lot of them. I must have at least 20 by now, ranging from the cheap and cheerful NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams to the pricier Kylie Jenner Lip Kits. I think over the past year or so I haven't really worn traditional lipsticks, in fact, I can't remember the last tine I wore one. I really love the matte finish and the texture of them, although they can be rather unforgiving on dry lips.

In my recent Colourpop order (and by recent I mean about 6 months ago), I bought lots of the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks and I am very slowly managing to work my way through them. Today I want to show you perhaps my three favourites out of the range, Midi, 1st Base and Are N Be.

About the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks:
"This thin and lightweight formula glides onto the lips smoothly and leaves SUPER intense pigment-rich colour with a bold, ultra matte look. It's very long wearing and completely kiss proof! We suggest storing these babies upright and shaking before application!"

The Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks come in over 45 different shades so if that isn't enough choice for you, I am not sure what is. The formula to these liquid lipsticks is quite creamy and thick in formula rather than loose and watery like some other lipsticks. Each of these lipsticks that I have tried have been incredibly pigmented - just look at the swatches above! Those were all from just one swipe with the doe-foot applicator which is pretty impressive, especially since they don't apply streaky when swatched or when on the lips. Longevity wise, they don't last as long as some of the other liquid lipsticks that I own but they do last for a good few hours before fading away and I haven't experienced them to flake on the lips at all, not like some of the Kylie Jenner Lip Kits.

The shades I have above are;
Midi which is described as being a soft neutral beige which whilst I agree, the photos and swatches of it on the Colourpop website show it to be more of a soft, baby pink whereas it really is more of a beige in reality. It is still a pretty shade and whilst it would be flattering on most skintones, I do think it is perhaps too much like my actual skintone therefore it does give me the illusion of having foundation lips!

1st Base which is described as being a mid-tone true pink and to me, this is a true 'Barbie pink' shade. I don't think I have ever owned or tried a pink lipstick as bright as this before. It is very pretty and very girlie and actually, it is a really flattering shade on my pale skin and I can see it as being a shade flattering for all skintones.

Are N Be which is described as being a rich mauve plum and I can honestly say, this product is exactly what I wanted and what I expected from the Kylie Lip Kit in Kourt K. The two shades are incredibly similar in colour with Kourt K perhaps being ever so slightly deeper. I found Kourt K to be unwearable and a complete waste of money but fortunately Are N Be is a wonderfully wearable, plum shade which is absolutely perfect for Autumn/Winter and I really think this may be my fvourite out of them all.

I really cannot fault the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks, from the formula to the longevity to the fantastic shade range. The only problem I have with them is getting them sent to the UK. You can either pay to get them shipped to you from Colourpop directly, an option they have only just started to offer, or you can use a shipping-on service such as MyMallBox which is how I got my Colourpop order sent to me. I will definitely be making another Colourpop order, and I will probably have to add another few of the Ultra Matte Lipsticks in there too - I just can't resist!

  1. These shades look beautiful. I had no idea how many different shades they had! Thats insane!

  2. I can imagine midi not being suited for everyone! It does have a nice neutral tone though which isn't too pink

  3. The shade Midi looks so lovely!

  4. These are such pretty shades! I have Midi but it's just way too light for me to wear by itself so I usually mix it with a darker shade. Are N B looks really nice though! Great shade for Fall :)
