Review // Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Framboujoise

Liquid lipsticks with a matte finish are so popular at the moment. Everyone is going crazy for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks and the Kat Von D Everlasting Lipsticks but they are hard to get hold of here in the UK. I was recently thinking about them whilst putting my make-up on and a thought occurred to me - we have our own, easily to get hold of versions here in the UK. In fact, you can get them from Boots and they are from Bourjois. I am sure everyone has tried them but if not, they are the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks. I have a fair few in my make-up bag but today, let me show you the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Framboujoise.

About the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks:
"Bold, matte and long-lasting colour with 24HR hold. Its lightweight, velvety texture and non-drying formula gives extreme comfort that doesn't smudge!"

I try not to comment on the packaging of products too much but I like the squareness of the lipstick tube? bottle? Whatever it is, I like it. To apply there is a doe-foot applicator which I wouldn't say was the best for application and it does need some practice and a steady hand to perfectly apply the lipstick with. If you are a bit cack-handed like me then practice will make perfect.

The first noticeable thing about the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks is the smell. It is fairly off-putting, perhaps not a scent I would want to put near my mouth. I couldn't describe it but it smells fairly chemically, not very pleasant at all.

Framboujoise is a lovely rosy red shade with pink undertones. It is a very wearable, everyday red shade - perhaps a shade to start off with if you are slightly unfamiliar with red lipsticks. The description on the bottle describes this as a matte lipstick, which it is but it does take a few minutes to fully set on the lips. One layer of the lipstick is a nice flush of colour but two layers is perfect for a deep, rosy red shade. They are very buildable and I like that you can build the colour up which makes the lipstick excellent for day and night wear.

As it is a matte lipstick you do need a bit of prep beforehand as it can show up any dry areas on the lips, like any other matte lipstick. It isn't uncomfortable to wear although it isn't weightless - it is definitely noticeable on the lips. I found that Framboujoise did transfer slightly when drinking but overall, it lasted a good few hours on the lips without needing to be re-applied which is great for when you are out and about.

After re-discovering the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks, I definitely want to make more of an effort to wear my other shades more often. I have Ole Flamingo too which is a really bright fuchsia shade. I will definitely be popping these two Velvet Lipsticks into my everyday make-up routine!  With 17 shades to choose from, you are bound to find the shade perfect for you.

  1. This lipstick looks amazing! Love the color x

  2. I'm obsessed with these lipsticks. I have Hot Pepper which I've been loving lately; very similar to this one which looks gorgeous! Also want to try Nudist. Too many beautiful shades to choose from! Great post X

  3. These are wonderful liquid lipsticks for the price - I have five shades, all of which I do not regret purchasing. I definitely recommend them to someone who is just starting out on liquid lipsticks :) You're right about the strange smell though!
