Review: George Gel Pro Nail Varnish in Deep Purple

George Gel Pro Nail Varnish - £3.00
A while ago I was on the hunt for a new nail varnish in ASDA when I saw that they had a brand new line of 'gel like' nail varnishes called George Gel Pro Nail Varnish. A lovely pinky coral jumped out at me but I already have a few of those so I was torn between a deep red and a purple. Evidently I bought the purple but I probably will buy the red too.

The nail varnish I bought was the George Gel Pro Nail Varnish in Deep Purple. In different lights it looks different colours, sometimes it looks black, navy and sometimes it looks like a vivid purple but in natural light on the nails it looks like a deep plum. It is very similar to the Barry M Hi Shine Gel Nail Paint in Blackberry, which I also own.

The nail varnish is fairly opaque but it looked a little patchy in places so I applied 2 generous coats. It lasted well over a week before chipping which was fab - I don't really enjoy the process of painting my nails and the longest I can get away without painting them the better! I really liked this nail varnish, I don't know how often I'll use it as I have to be in a bit of a 'mood' to wear dark colours like this but I'll definitely buy more in the range.

Other: My 5 Favourite Beauty Products

The other day I sat thinking about my favourite beauty products, the ones that I just could not live without and would repurchase and repurchase until the end of time. And then I realised it would take me a very long time in deciding.

So I tipped my make-up case upside down and had a rummage through and picked out 20 of my favourite beauty products. Then, somehow, I managed to whittle them down from 10 to 5.

My reasonings were: If I were trapped on a deserted island with Michael Buble and 5 beauty products, what would I need the most?

And these are the 5 products if I were to be trapped on a deserted island with Michael Buble, these are what I would take with me! (Seriously though, if I was with Michael Buble the last thing on my mind would be make-up.)
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly - £15 / MAC / Review
I love this. It's the perfect base for eyeshadow: it makes it stay in place ALL day. It's perfect on it's own as a neutral eye colour and is very long lasting. Also I've used it everyday since I bought it last July and I've barely made a dent in it. Really could not live without this little pot!
Estee Lauder Double Wear Light - £28.50 / Boots
I love this. It is like heaven in a bottle. I don't want to go into too much detail as I want to do a review about it soon but honestly, little miss tight purse over here thinks that spending nearly £30 on a foundation is worth every single penny. To sum it up: I didn't realise my foundation could look that nice. That flawless. I don't use it every day although the lovely girl who sold it to me said it would last me 5 months. I don't know if that is true or not but we shall see.
Revlon Lip Butter in Macaroon - £7.99 / Boots / Review
Everyone loves a Lip Butter don't they? I'm sure we've all heard a lot about these by now so I won't go into too much depth. Sometimes when I want to wear something on my lips but don't necessarily want too much colour then I wear Macaroon. It's the perfect 'my lips but better', perfect for everyday which is just as well as I wear it pretty much every day!
Collection 2000 Face & Body Illuminator in Maldives - £4.99 / eBay / Review
My favourite eBay find! I've tried a few powder highlighter's before but none of them highlight as well as this stick. It's a lovely golden colour and sits perfectly on top of the cheekbones. I've had this for a while now and I've still got a fair bit left so it's perfect value for money.
L'oreal Volume Million Lashes Excess Mascara - £10.99 / Boots
I've recently found that L'oreal's mascaras are so much better than any other I've tried before. I've tried Million Lashes Excess, False Lash Flutter and Lash Architect and I've loved them all. False Lash Flutter is probably my favourite as it really does make you look like you're wearing natural false eyelashes which loads of different brands say their mascara's do but usually never deliver. Volume Million Lashes also does what is says and adds volume to the lashes makes them appear much, much thicker.

Recent Purchases: Fashion Buys

About two weeks ago, when the weather changed from 18 degrees to 30 I realised I had a big dilemma on my hands. I had no clothes. I'm talking summer clothes. Since losing about 3 stone since last summer all of my clothes fell to the floor as soon as I put them on.

Before I show you what I bought, I have to admit that I am a guilty buyer. Yes, I didn't buy too much and it wasn't too expensive so why I was sat last night with guilt oozing out of me I don't know.
Soulcal @ Republic 'Vintage' Crop Top - £9.60
I tried this on in the shop to see what it looked like, not really thinking too much of it as I carried it to the changing rooms. 5 mins later and it's mine! I bought this in the sale as Republic is closing down where I live so it's worth a look in there at the moment.
ASOS Vest in Oversize - £9 (link)
I bought this in hope that it would look like the image on the website..alas, no. I tried it on when it arrived and it is much more like a dress/tent. Word of advice, size down when buying oversized items of clothing. I'll probably wear this either on it's own or with a pair of shorts underneath.
Primark @ ASOS Floral Skater Dress - £13 (link)
Isn't it pretty? I bought this off ASOS's website but you can buy it in store in Primark. The only reason I bought it online is because I really cannot be bothered to rummage through the rails to find my size in store. Lovely dress, one of which my Mum reckons I should wear to a wedding next year abroad. We'll see Mum, we'll see.
New Look Printed Trousers - £16.99
I've been wanting a pair of printed trousers for a while and these ones are perfect for summer. They're lightweight and have a slim fit - I can see myself wearing these a lot of the next couple of months!
New Look Floral Cami Top - £12.99 (link)
This is the perfect top for me during this weather. It's very lightweight, floaty and you don't have to worry about which bra to wear with it as the back is high up disguising it. Also it isn't see-through, hooray! Well worth £12.99.
New Look Floral Skater Skirt - £12.99
I was really sad when I realised that none of my skirts fitted me anymore so I jumped on this when I saw it. It's just the right length so you needn't worry when you bend over and it looks nice with pretty much everything.
River Island Wedge Cut Out Trainers - £10 (link)
I bought these last night for £15 in the sale and now they've gone down in price - grrrr. Hopefully they'll be worth it!

Review: Sinful Colors Nail Varnish in Candy Coated

Sinful Colors Nail Varnish - £1.99
Another day another nail varnish review! This one is my second nail varnish from the American brand Sinful Colors and I love this one just as much as the first.

I picked up Candy Coated which is a gorgeous soft blue creme based nail varnish. It reminds me of Nails Inc Nail Varnish in Bluebell which was free in an InStyle Magazine a while ago. Candy Coated has a very, very subtle shimmer to it which you can't really see from the photos.

I applied two coats but as the nail varnish is so opaque you could get away with using just one. It's such a pretty colour and it would look great matte for the summer.

Outfits: The Floral Pinafore Dress

Dress - Parisian in New Look
Top - M&S
Ballet Pumps: New Look (circa 2008)
Laddered Tights - God Knows

This is what I wore a couple of weeks ago on an unusually sunny day. It's become so much hotter since then and I haven't worn it since purely because I thought I'd be too hot wearing the top underneath the dress.

I bought this dress for £19.99 from New Look and it was literally love at first sight. None of my friends were majorly thrilled when I tried it on but I liked it so I bought it. I was so excited about it that when I took it home and tried it on to show my mum, the strap broke and a button at the back pinged off. Luckily I exchanged it. Just in time to go back the next day to find it in the sale for £8. Don't you just love it when that happens?

I think it's lovely and summery. It won't be everyone's cup of tea and it could have been a little bit more flattering on the hips -I swear my hips aren't THAT big- but oh well. I wore it with a t-shirt underneath as I personally don't think there's much material to it and I wouldn't want to flash my bra at everyone but it's up to you how you want to wear it.

Recipes: Homemade Skinny Oreo Milkshakes

It was really hot today. Which is surprising considering I live in England.
So I decided to make a refreshing fruit smoothie. But then I thought, "who am I kidding? I don't even have a blender."

So I made a lovely Skinny Oreo Milkshake instead and, boy, let me tell you, it's a goodun'!

I made a skinny version but you can swap the ingredients for full fat if you don't mind the extra cals. Also, it is a 'skinny' version but it'll still have calories in it but we can pretend they don't, can't we?
Skinny Oreo Milkshakes
(Serves two, 360 calories per serving)

10 Oreo Biscuits (Plus half for topping)
350ml Skimmed Milk
4 Scoops of Walls Soft Scoop Light Vanilla Ice Cream

(If you don't have a blender)
1. Put the Oreo biscuits into a sandwich bag and crush with a rolling pin until you achieve small chunks of biscuit.
2. Tip into a bowl and add the milk and the ice cream.
3. Whisk it all together with a whisk or even a potato masher. Keep whisking until it's all combined.
4. Pour into tall glasses and top with half an Oreo.
5. Enjoy!

(If you do have a blender)
1. Put the Oreo biscuits into the blender and blend until you get small chunks of biscuit.
2. Pour the milk into the blender and add the ice cream.
3. Blend until combined.
4. Pour into tall glasses and top with half an Oreo.
5. Enjoy!

You can also add a straw if you have one. You can even go wild and add an umbrella.

Fashion: Il Centimetro Classic Yellow Bracelet

Il Centimetro Classic Yellow Bracelet - £30.00*
A couple of weeks ago I was offered the chance to review a bracelet through Handpicked Media from the brand Il Centimetro. I hadn't heard of this brand before so I was excited about what was going to come through the post for me! I like buying and wearing clothes/jewellery from different brands so when I got told an Il Centimetro bracelet was being sent to me, well, I was very happy indeed.

As you can gather from the name of the brand, each bracelet is based on a tailor's tape measure. I think it's such an unusual, quirky design, I've never seen anything like this before!

I don't know much about the Italian brand, Il Centimetro, but what I do know is that each bracelet they make is individually hand-made from the highest quality leather, making each piece individual. They come in two sizes: one for the girls and one for the boys and they also come in an array of colours.

I got sent the Il Centimetro Classic Yellow Bracelet and I absolutely adore it. As it is such an unusual piece of jewellery, it really stands out and certainly brightens up a plain outfit. The first thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the box is the quality of the leather - isn't the smell of real leather wonderful?!

I'm also known for my cack-handedness so was a little worried about how I'd undo it once I had put it on as usually I have to ask my mum for help when taking tricky bracelets off but luckily there's a special little magnetic clasp that makes it super easy.

I know I've been singing Il Centimetro's praises but I really can't fault them. Fabulous product - quirky, different and available in a vast amount of colours.

Review: Barry M Confetti Nail Paint in Sour Apple

Barry M Confetti Nail Paint - £3.99
I have a habit of 'borrowing' my sisters nail varnish and this is one that I've 'borrowed' recently! She recently spotted this little beauty in Boots and I persuaded her to buy it, mostly so I could borrow it.

The nail varnish I'm talking about is Barry M's Confetti Nail Paint in Sour Apple. Barry M's Confetti Nail Paints are much cheaper dupes of the Nails Inc Feather Collection which I haven't tried before but I'll have to admit, they do look very similar!

Sour Apple is a clear, gel based nail varnish with little strands of blue and yellow confetti pieces. You can layer it up and use it on it's own, which would look great as an accent nail, or you can layer it over a plain coloured nail varnish which is what I did.

I applied one generous layer over 17's Lasting Fix Nail Polish in Forever which is a lovely taupey beige. I wanted to use a fairly plain nail varnish just to see what the confetti looks like against a neutral colour.

Overall I really like this nail varnish. It looks really pretty on the nails and layered up, it would look fab as an accent nail. Another great thing about the Barry M Confetti Nail Paints is that they are available in 5 different shades so you're bound to find one that would go with your nail varnish collection.
